the business of being born

Friday, March 28, 2014

while talking with a coworker, she suggested that i watch this film, the business of being born. it's a documentary and "explores the history of obstetrics, the history and function of midwives, and how many common medical practices may be doing new mothers more harm than good."

instead of grabbing a movie for our Friday night, we watched this. it was spectacular. it was super informative and is currently making me think about a lot of different things right now.

on my last doctor visit, the nurse gave me some paperwork to fill out for my birth plan. who knew there was such a thing? but there actually is! it's basically a plan for your delivery, and it is a smart idea since there is quite a bit of things to think about. for first time mamas like myself, it was a good idea for me to start thinking about the day!

hence, why we watched the film. my loverboy wasn't very keen of watching such a film on a friday night, but being that he was my baby's daddy, he had no choice. it was an eye opener for both him and i. i won't spoil it for you, but whether you are expecting, or are planning a family someday, i think you should consider watching this film.

how we told our family

Thursday, March 27, 2014

i had thought about throwing a gender reveal party, since who doesn't love a party? but due to busy season and my energy level, i just didn't feel like throwing a party. and i knew i had bigger fishes to fry, or in my case, not to fry, or bake, or cook. my husband can attest to that, but that is for another day.

i came across the idea when i was reading another blog, and i so wish i can remember which blog it was. i wanted a fun way to share with our families what we were going to have. of course, there is nothing wrong with a phone call, or telling them in person. but i thought this was an extra fun way to share the news. i will tell you though, that you have to be careful and let them know not to share it publicly on facebook where other family members can see it. we have families all across the states so some family members received theirs earlier than others. also, something that i wished we had done was have all of them video tape while they are scratching it off. we had three families do that, and that was just so fun to watch. unfortunately, we didn't think of that idea sooner :(

i bought the cards off etsy in this little shop: stationmerry. katie, the store owner, was super sweet and she sent them priority mail, which was an added bonus.

how to read a laundry tag

Saturday, March 22, 2014

growing up, my mom always washed our clothes by washing whites separately from darks. that made sense and i always do that. however, i notice that sometimes my clothes aren't as bright or the material starts to pill or clothes still gets discolored. for a couple of years now, i've begun separating out my clothes and washing them according to the tag. it is a bit time consuming and can seem wasteful, but as long as you adjust your load so that you aren't using a ton of water for small loads, your water consumption should not increase tremendously.

by following the directions and washing our clothes this way, i've noticed that they are looking better and lasting longer. i found this guide "how to read a laundry tag" extremely helpful when trying to decipher all the symbols on the tags. i'm keeping a copy in our laundry room for easy reference!

22 weeks

Saturday, March 15, 2014

it's a little wild to think that the number of weeks that i've been pregnant is greater than the number of weeks left. not too long ago, i felt like 40 weeks was a really long time, but when you are counting in weeks, time just flies by. especially since 4 of those months are busy season.

as i'm writing this, the babe is moving in my tummy. it's reassuring when i can feel it move and when i don't, it can be a little scary. i wonder if other moms feel the same?

i have started getting tired once again. it's not as bad as the first trimester, but i do get tired and am taking naps on both saturdays and sundays. sleeping on my side is starting to hurt my shoulders. i wake up and my shoulders hurt. hurting for sitting periods of time hurts my tailbone. earlier this week, my hips were hurting.

i just sound like bunches of fun, don't i?

on the bright side, i'm able to eat more things. although eating some things does leave a weird taste in my mouth, but for the most part, i'm able to eat more things without feeling terrible.

into this world of motherhood

Saturday, March 8, 2014

as i have surpassed the mid way point, i have been thinking a lot more about when the little one comes. i'm excited, but nervous. mainly excited. we are not paying for the 3d images so i am anxiously waiting to see what the little one will look like. i'm extremely excited to hold it, to watch it sleep, to watch it learn and grow and see.

the first part of my pregnancy was spent focusing on work so i didn't think too much, and didn't get too excited, but now that the storm is getting closer to an end, i am actually starting to think more about it. i am browsing baby clothes, baby things, baby blogs, baby this and baby that.

i know there isn't a perfect time to have a little one, or so i have been told. but now couldn't be more perfect. we've been married 8 years, i know, in married years, i am quite old! and we are just ready for another addition to our family.

i hope to have more time to focus on the baby in the next couple of months, and to learn also. all tips and advices welcome!
