what's in a home

Saturday, September 27, 2014

we are slowly easing ourselves into this home. i've been complaining nonstop to bd and i am pretty sure he zones me out now, but this home is growing on me. i am still not fond of the bugs, and the yard. sometimes i love the space, and other time i don't. i am used to a small space with i can hear everything and know what is going on. but i guess when you live in a house, it's a little bit different. there are responsibilities. nobody will come change your lights for you, or come fix the toilet. there is definitely something to be said about living in an apartment.

i've been getting a whole bunch of bug bites. i am in major need of some scar cream because of course, i itched the heck out of the bites.

just practicing duck face!

two month pediatrician visit

Sunday, September 21, 2014

this past friday, the little guy had his two month dr visit. his stats:

height: 23 1/4 inches (52%)
weight: 12 lb 9 oz (61%)
head circumference: 15 1/2 inches (27%)

he's definitely jumped up in terms of percentile as compared to his first dr visit here. i know that some kids have to be on the lower end, and there is nothing wrong with that, but i keep hoping he'll be bigger than kids his age. reading mom forums confirms the fact that we all hope our kids are on the higher end.

he's started smiling a lot more now and he is loving his swing and rock n play. he will stare at the little lamb mobiles on the swing and rock n play for a very long time. it's the funniest thing since it's almost like he is having a staring contest with them. he can fall asleep in both which hasn't always been the case. i have noticed that over the course of the past 2 months, his temperament has changed. he is a lot calmer now and always seems to be thinking. he is definitely a good baby, crying only when hungry, tired, or poopy. he makes cute little faces and loves when we talk to him.

we haven't experienced anymore diaper rashes since the ones when he was really new. i change him quite frequently right when he poo and pee, for fear of diaper rashes. he doesn't like being dirty so he doesn't have a problem letting me know.

it makes me really sad to think that i'll be leaving him soon. the past two months have flown by. i love waking up and hanging out with my little guy.

here's to a great week!

the best infant tub

Saturday, September 20, 2014

to be fair, mw is my first & i have yet to try a lot of different tubs. this was my first reach, after reading the reviews online and looking at it in person. as a first time mom, there are a lot of cool stuff out there, and a lot of the times, it's all about preference. what works for some moms might not work for others, no matter how great the product is.
however, after using the 4 moms infant tub, i have to declare this as the best infant tub because of a lot of helpful features. first and definitely at the top of my list is the temperature gauge. although i knew what felt comfortable to me as far as the water temperature was concerned, i wasn't really sure what would be optimal for mw. there is a range of temperatures that is optimal for a baby and anytime you go over that, the tub will start beeping to let you know which is nice because whenever we bathe him, we don't always look at the temperature gauge. secondly, the side drains (you can see that below) lets the dirty water out so that there is always clean water coming in and dirty water going out. this is nice so that we don't have to rinse him after using soap since the dirty water will go out and he's getting rinsed with clean water. one of the last features that we like is that it fit single and double sinks. our last place has double sinks and our current place also has double sinks so it makes giving him a bath much easier.

one complaint that i do have is the lack of support, especially when mw was tiny. bd just puts his hands under mw's head for support, but it would be nice to have an insert for more cushion.

happy bathing!

a sweet moment

Thursday, September 18, 2014

one of my favorite moments (so far!) happened a couple of weeks ago. i had gotten up to feed mw. typically what i do is feed him one side, change diaper and then feed him on the other side. well, i had just changed his diaper and was about to feed him again. while walking to the couch, he loudly burped in my face 3 times. i was caught by surprise, since i had already burped him before changing his diaper. i laughed at him, and he laughed back and gave me the sweetest grin. the rest of the time, he ate and just smiled at me. it was the sweetest thing ever and makes getting up in the middle of the night so much easier.

i love these sweet moments with my little guy.

things i loved in august

Tuesday, September 2, 2014

hope you all had a great labor day weekend! we had a lot of fun yesterday. one of bd's coworkers invited us over for dinner with her and her family. we had a really good time & had a lot of great conversations. she even held mw so we could eat while the food was hot. we have honestly been so blessed with great coworkers & friends who have helped us so much! afterwards, we came home & had s'mores and swam with some of our friends from church. we definitely live for the weekends & for holidays!!!
here are a few things that i loved during the month of august!

i was looking for a setting powder & the girl at sephora recommended this one to me. it has a very slight glitter in it that is supposed to make you look luminous. glitter might not be the best word for it because wearing this won't make your face shiny, i promise!

i have to admit that i don't use this on my cheek. i use it on my lips & i really like it. it gives a stain like effect and doesn't dry out my lips.

my girlfriend e gifted me this diaper bag. i've been loving this and it fits all of mw's stuff and also mine as i use this as my purse + diaper bag. she also gifted me this changing pad which i love and use all the time. visit her stella & dot shop here.

i was seriously panicking after a couple of weeks of waking up in the wee hours with mw. i was getting so exhausted and i just couldn't handle it anymore. enter this book shared by my girlfriend k. she let me borrow her copy. i've since ordered my own! there are lots of books out there about sleep training but so far, i have really enjoyed this one and it seems to be working so far!

happy september! we are officially on countdown for the in laws & my sister in law who are coming this month!
